Sprinting sensation Asafa Powell last week continued his recent philanthropic efforts, reaching out to his former school, Ewarton Primary.

Powell, a LIME brand ambassador, donated $150,000 towards the improvement of the physical-education programme at the school.

Courtesy of LIME, Powell also donated a Lenovo desktop computer to the St.Catherine-based schools’ computer lab.

Before receiving the donation, the school’s principal, Malgalyn Clunis, spoke glowingly of the former sprint champion.

“This is the story of a son who has done extremely well and has returned home to share his blessings with his roots,” said Clunis.

The Ewarton Primary principal labelled the occasion a “teaching moment” for students on what talent, determination and hard work can do, and for parents on the pride that follows a commitment to loving their children unconditionally.

Most of the money will go towards retrofitting the school’s physical-education department, while the computer donation will help to boost the availability of stations in the school’s computer lab.

Chairman of the LIME Foundation, Errol Miller, said the donation forms part of its commitment towards securing the best education experience for Jamaica’s children, especially those in rural areas.

Miller lauded the students for their discipline throughout the ceremony and congratulated the school’s staff for their guidance in that regard.
